CP of Norway
The Norwegian Communist Party (NKP) would like to thank you for the invitation to this meeting. It is a great honor on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Soviet Union (USSR).
The Soviet Union has been of great importance and has provided fundamental knowledge for our analyses. Socialism works, it is proven. Capitalism is not indelible. NKP sees the necessity of a communist party in the vanguard, and we understand the strength of acting together internationally.
When we are gathered here today, all Communist and Labor parties in Europe, it is on the basis of our common ideology. The background of our parties and developments in our various countries, however, vary historically. But the side we choose is clear; we stand with the working class.
We hate injustice and abuse of power. We are Communists willing to fight and sacrifice, with a steady course of political analysis, tactics and strategy. We have the methods, and move based on what reality looks like - with information, analysis and knowledge.
The Soviet Union gave the West an insight into how the interests of the working class could be better looked after from cradle to grave. The West felt the pressure and tried to adapt, but of course could never quite reach the goal when it came to free health and education, flourishing sports and cultural life, and work for all.
The first workers' state was a beacon for the workers' struggle all over the world, and supported the peoples in the struggle for peace, workers' rights and socialism. That is what we are missing today, and without the Soviet Union, the working class has no role model and the rights fought for by our ancestors are rapidly deteriorating.
Norway is today a highly developed country, and in the consensus of the citizenry there is high satisfaction, despite growing differences and deterioration of working conditions. Welfare services no longer reach the people they are meant to help. The point is that everyone would be so much better off with a societal change. Norway needs a system change.
Historically, the NKP achieves increased support and renewed confidence in times of crisis, and after showing what communists are good for, such as the efforts of our comrades during the Second World War, who fought for peace and freedom, or in the period after the referendums against EU membership. Now we hope that the electricity price crisis, inflation, countless interest rate hikes, increased food and fuel prices, the debt burden, when ordinary people notice that a normal monthly salary is no longer enough, will awaken the population to demand a lasting change - socialism. It is a necessary historical development.
NKP is the only alternative against capitalism and imperialism. That is why we are strengthening our party as the only system-critical revolutionary party in Norway.
However, our party has strong forces against us - every means is used to throw us off the stage. Anti-communism, rewriting of history, opportunism and illegal surveillance define our working conditions. After the counter-revolution in the Soviet Union, the fear of communists is still present in the Norwegian population. We are judged and punished by historical and current anti-communist lies.
The correct understanding of the successful Marxist-Leninist principles that led to the founding of the first workers' state of the USSR is as important today as it was 100 years ago.
